Braden River Football
The Braden River High football team celebrated Mother’s Day a day early with a Tribute to Pirate Mothers event May 10.

The Pirates honored their mothers and all they do for the team throughout the season by serving them a special picnic lunch following the team’s morning scrimmage.

Braden River will close out the spring season when it hosts Cardinal Mooney at its annual Spring Game May 22.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

+ Pirates to offer summer camp
Braden River High will hold its second annual baseball and softball summer camp from 8 a.m. to noon July 7 through 10.

The camp is open to children ages 5 to 13. Cost is $100 per camper and includes a camp T-shirt.

Families with siblings will receive $10 off for every child after the first one. Travel ball teams with five or more players will receive a special rate of $80 per camper.

Participants will practice with a purpose to improve their fundamental skills. Campers will enjoy a water day on the final day of camp.

+ Registration for i9 basketball underway
Registration for the i9 Sports Manatee/Sarasota summer basketball league is now underway.

The league is open to children ages 5 to 12. Games will be held Saturdays from June 14 through Aug. 2, at Faith Lutheran Church, 7750 Beneva Road, Sarasota.

+ LAX tournament coming to Premier
The Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch will host the Laxpalooza Lacrosse Tournament May 24 and May 25.

The tournament will feature more than 35 boys and girls lacrosse teams of all levels from across the Southeast and mid-Atlantic regions. Community and travel elite teams will compete in both A- and B-level competitions.

“We are very excited to be hosting this event at the Premier Sports Campus and not only welcome teams from Florida but also teams from as far as New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland,” said Antonio Saviano, Premier Sports Campus director. “We hope this event will help generate another significant economic impact over the holiday weekend for our local hotels and restaurants.”

+ Tryouts for BRSC teams upcoming
The Braden River Soccer Club will host tryouts for its U8 to U18 competitive soccer teams May 27 through June 1.

All tryouts will be held at the BRSC fields located behind Lakewood Ranch High. A-level competitive teams will practice three days a week. Two hundred junior competitive players participated in the spring season.

Athletes interested in trying out can attend a pre-tryout camp from 6:30 to
8 p.m. May 19 through May 22. Cost is $75.
