Judy Achre honored as Valiant Woman. Church Women United of Manatee County honored Judy Achre, right, as Valiant Woman of the Year May 2, at Westminster Manor. The award acknowledges outstanding work for the good of the community. A member of Longboat Island Chapel, Achre has been a CWU delegate for years and conducted the Human Rights Celebration programs when the chapel hosted the organization earlier this year. This past month, Achre was also installed as the president of the League of Women Voters in Sarasota. 

Rotary Club of Longboat Key fights to end summer hunger. An All Faiths Food Bank employee assists Rotarian-to-be Philippe Koenig, right, while he delivers some of the food the Rotary Club of Longboat Key collected weekly. The group also has volunteered to collect the pantry contents of departing Longboat Key residents who can’t take the food to a collection point.
