Four months of crafting design plans and a 52-gram Formula One model racecar later, F1 in Schools team, Slipstream, clinched a spot at an international competition.

Merritt Kendzior, Hannah Figueras, Madelyn Kumar, Victoria Sinclair and Domenic Aluise learned May 20, that their team will represent the United States at the World Finals in November in Abu Dhabi.

The students raced their car at a national competition last weekend at the Michigan International Speedway, and secured a spot in the next round of the competition as a result of their car's performance.

Slipstream also won three contingency awards for “Best Engineered Car," “Best Portfolio” and “Best Pit Display”.

“This has truly been a once in a lifetime experience," Kendzior said in a previously released statement. "We worked day and night to prepare our team for success and are extremely proud that our hard work paid off."

To participate in the series of competitions, the students were responsible for obtaining sponsors for their vehicle, while also creating a vehicle design, logo and business plan.
