Your Neighbor: Morris Walker

Asked if reincarnation has always been a part of his life, Morris Walker is quick with his sly response.

“It’s been a part of my life for many lives,” Walker says, smiling.

His most recent published work, “The Lives of Carl Atman,” is a love story with twist: It takes place over a 500-year journey.

“‘The Lives of Carl Atman’ really has to do with what I observed in my life and how, in a fictional way, I thought I could convey it over this period of time,” Walker said. “Not only with the reincarnation of souls, but with the phenomena of soul mates.”

Walker introduces the reader to Kimo and Quannik in the Alaskan wilderness circa 1532 and, from there, tells a story of love and life that transcends time.

“We follow these souls through different countries, different ages and different languages,” Walker said. “As much as I have a point with the story itself, I wanted people to consider the possibility of reincarnation more than before.”

Walker creates a world where love never dies, which has given many of his readers invaluable reassurance.

“More than once, people have said to us that the book gave them hope,” said Walker’s wife, Lynn.

“Because people who have lost a love or never feel like they’re going to be in love again, now they feel like, ‘I’m gonna have my soul mate sometime.’”

It’s easy to see why Walker might believe in reincarnation, because it seems he has lived many lives in his 69 years.

From growing up with the actor and comedian Steve Martin to traveling the world with his wife as the couple entertained thousands with their comedy concerts, Walker has experienced enough to fuel many more books.

“I met Steve in the sixth grade, and growing up with him was an unbelievable time in our lives,” Walker said. “He wanted to be a musician and I wanted to be a comedian, so we put our heads together. But I also wanted to meet a beautiful woman and travel the world, and he wanted to make millions of dollars, so I’d say we both succeeded.”

Today, Walker is working on his next reincarnation book and promises it will be one of the best how-to books to hit the market in a long time.

“Some people say, ‘Oh, I don’t believe in reincarnation. It’s not going to happen,’” Walker said. “But you just don’t know. The picture is so big.”
