Take Stock in Children, a Florida nonprofit with the goal of helping children by providing scholarships, mentors and optimism to low-income students, announces the graduation of 49 local high school seniors.

The 49 students showed a commitment to overcoming adversity by meeting with their Take Stock in Children mentors once a week, maintaining good academic standing and staying drug- and crime-free during their middle and high school tenures. Because of their hard work, the students have received a scholarship so they can pursue their next levels of education.

The TSIC ceremony, sponsored by the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota and the Seidensicker family, was held May 7.
