As 2014 heats up, it's getting more and more apparent that these trendy, long mermaid locks may be a bit too hot and heavy. If that's the case, then taking the plunge and pulling out the scissors for the summer may be an option thats right up your alley.
If you're partial to your long hair, try opting for the less dramatic long bob (or the terribly dubbed “lob”). These styles have been floating around since early 2013, with a few of my favorites being the always-stunning youngest Olsen sister, Elizabeth, and supermodel-turned-V.J., Alexa Chung. Both of these looks still encompass the carefree, boho look that's so in right now, with the ombre highlights (or balyage for you hair gurus) and some soft, beachy waves.
If you're in need of a serious change and are a bit daring, trying a style thats a little “less apple pie” can be fun, too. Katy Perry has banished her cotton-candy locks and opted for a dark, shoulder-length crop bob. I'm especially in favor of this look because of her Bettie Page-inspired bangs that pair so perfectly with her new 'do. It's still versatile enough to wear curly, or she can spice it up and slick it down for a more polished look.
Emma Roberts also left behind her long blonde locks and went for a more grown up style. Her stylish bob is a classic chin-length cut that never really goes out of style. Her stunning asymmetrical bob, paired with hose-piece-y lowlights are impeccable. From the side, we get to see how seamlessly her stylist was able to blend her bangs into the angled bob. Instead of adding weight to her hair, now they delicately frame her face.
