After travelling to Chicago for a pair of world-record setting tightrope walks Sunday, Nik Wallenda’s next challenge will take place closer to home.

Wallenda is scheduled to walk the wire at the grand reopening of Sarasota Ford, located at 707 S. Washington Blvd., on Dec. 6. Matt Buchanan, operating partner of Sarasota Ford, said Wallenda’s walk across the property would cover about 200 yards on a wire 100 feet above ground level.

Buchanan said Wallenda leapt at the opportunity when approached about attending the event.

“He was excited,” Buchanan said. “He’s such a pro-Sarasota guy; he loves the community.”

The grand reopening event is focused on Sarasota’s circus history, and will feature performances from members of the Circus Arts Conservatory. The event will take place from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m., with Wallenda’s walk slated to begin around 6 p.m.
