It's no secret that Sarasota is home to a plethora of artistic showcases; we have the Film Festival, Ringling International Arts Festival, the Chalk Festival and visual-and-performing-arts events galore.
One of the hidden gems in this realm, though, is the annual Cine-World Film Festival. Hosted by the Sarasota Film Society, this festival showcases the best of the lesser-known new foreign and independent films.
The festival kicks off this Friday, Nov. 7 and runs through the following Saturday, Nov. 16, with showing at Burns Court Cinemas and Lakewood Ranch Cinemas. Tickets are available via passes or individually both online and at the respective theaters.
Here are a few of the films we're most excited for. What are you planning to see? Click here for a virtual program.
PARADISE LOST:
Classic love story. Boy meets girl; falls in love; finds out girl's uncle is Pablo Escobar. Who hasn't been there? Plus, Benicio del Toro can practically do no wrong.

The trip eventually takes him to Northern Africa and the Middle East, where he finds himself fighting in the Libyan Revolution and being captured and held in solitary confinement for six months.
