The bedroom: the most important room in the house. Besides the kitchen, where you fuel your body with food, this room is crucial for the well being of you. It’s where you unwind for the night, catch your zzz’s and recharge for the next day. However, this life-giving space is often neglected when it comes to design and décor, be it that the time, money and energy went into the parts of the house seen more often by guests. We stopped in some our favorite local showrooms and spoke with a few local designers to get the scoop on what bedrooms need to be both stylish and functional.

There are no set rules on how to decorate a bedroom. Each person has her own style, habits and routines that dictate how she would use space in the home, but these tips and starting points will lead you in the right direction ...


Start with the bed.
It can be assumed the one item that most people would agree necessary in a bedroom would be a bed. What is also crucial for design appeal, as well as comfort, is a generous amount of pillows. Don’t skimp on pillows, but don’t just throw them on there, either. At left, interior designer Keffie Lancaster breaks down the anatomy of pillow-scaping your bed.
