+ Nolan Middle School Soccer
The Nolan Middle School boys and girls soccer teams finished the season undefeated en route to winning the county championship Oct. 21.
The Nolan girls defeated Braden River 2-0 while the Nolan boys defeated King Middle 3-0. With the win, the girls captured their fourth championship while the boys won their first title.
Championship players include:

+ Golfers tee off in challenge
Four local golfers won their respective age divisions in the Southwest Florida Junior Challenge Oct. 25 and Oct. 26, on the Champions Course at Palm-Aire Country Club.
Individual winners include:

• Boys 11-14 — Hector Barnetche
• Girls 15-18 — Hannah Haythorne
• Boys 15-18 — Tony Jiang
Winners of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event received an invitation to the 2014 Tour Championship.
+ BRE student finishes triathlon
Eight-year-old Abby Hite recently finished her third triathlon season.
The Braden River Elementary School third-grader competed in 11 triathlons, posting nine first-place finishes and one second-place finish.
Hite, who swims for the Lakewood Ranch Wave Runners, will now begin preparing for the winter swim season, as well as several upcoming 5K races.
+ ODA opens season with win
The Out-of-Door Academy girls soccer team opened its season with a 3-1 victory over Carrollwood Day School Oct. 30.
Kimmy Comito, Lexi Murphy and Katie Lang all scored goals for the Lady Thunder. Miller Condrack and Kat Pacitti each had an assist. Abby Bannar finished with nine saves.
+ i9 Sports to hold winter clinics
i9 Sports Manatee/Sarasota will hold a series of sports clinics for soccer, football and basketball Dec. 6, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20.
The one-day clinics, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, are designed to give children ages 5 to 14 a better understanding of the game. The goal is to enhance fundamentals and allow the attendees to practice a variety of drills and techniques.
Cost is $49. A $5 discount is available for those registering more than one child. The deadline to register is Dec. 1.

+ River Strand volleys for breast cancer
River Strand Golf and Country Club held a tennis mixer Oct. 18 to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Participants enjoyed rounds of tennis, lunch and an auction while raising more than $5,000 for breast cancer research.
