Street, office closures planned for Veterans Day

A number of closures are planned in the city and county Tuesday, Nov. 11, in recognition of Veterans Day.

Throughout Tuesday morning, street closures will be going into effect in downtown Sarasota in conjunction with the annual Veterans Day parade hosted by the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at Main Street and Osprey Avenue. A ceremony at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park, located at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue, will follow the parade at approximately 11 a.m.

A full list of scheduled street closures follows:

Closures beginning at 6 a.m.:

+ Gulfstream Avenue, from Cocoanut Avenue to McAnsh Square

Closures beginning at 8 a.m.:

+ Main Street, from Washington Boulevard to Osprey Avenue
+ Osprey Avenue, from Second Street to Ringling Boulevard
+ Links Avenue, from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard

Closures beginning at 9 a.m.:

+ Main Street, from Osprey Avenue to Gulfstream Avenue

All closures will be in effect until 12:30 p.m.

All city and county administration offices will be closed Tuesday. In the city, recreational facilities will be open for regular hours. County-owned libraries and recreation centers will be closed, but Sarasota County Area Transportation service will operate on its regular schedule.

Two county park facilities will be open Tuesday. Arlington Park will be open from noon to 5 p.m., and Payne Park will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Garbage collection will not be impacted in the city or county.
