When planning Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida's first annual Wish party, organizers say they wanted to capture the energy and youthful atmosphere of all-white-themed parties held in bigger cities across the country. These parties, during which attendees wear all white, are popular in places like New Orleans and Atlanta, and Regional Director Rebecca Blitz says the theme was a perfect fit for the local chapter.
The party, which is co-chaired by Kim Mancini and Beth Wexler, will take place this Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Michael's on East and will feature live music by DJ Imminent, all-white decorations, a vodka luge, champagne towers and, most importantly, all proceeds will go directly to Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida to help fund local children's wishes.
"Everything has been donated," says Blitz. "So people can rest assured that all of their money is going straight to local children. There's such a need, and it's something people don't always see. We have five children with wishes right now, and funding them really has an impact on these families."
Like anything else, Blitz says to grab people's attention, you have to set your event apart — and that's just what she hopes to do.
"Our dream is to make all these wishes come true," says Blitz. "And the only way to do that is to get support from the community."
