Frederick John Hunziker Jr., 86, of Longboat Key, died Nov. 7.
Born April 13, 1928, Mr. Hunziker grew up in Little Falls, N.J., where he played clarinet and saxophone in several bands. He graduated in 1949 from Tufts University and completed one year of graduate work in Washington, D.C., before enlisting in the Air Force. He completed officer candidate school and spent two years in the service, mainly in North Africa. He was discharged as first lieutenant and enrolled once again at George Washington University, where he received his law degree in 1956.
Mr. Hunziker worked in several places throughout his career in Falmouth, Mass., Washington, D.C., and New York City. He retired from Consolidated Edison in New York in 1993 as general tax council after working for the company for 23 years.
While living in Rye, N.Y., he was president of the Rye Little League, a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader, a city councilman and mayor from 1982 to 1983. He loved boating in the Long Island Sound and was known for his birdcalls.
Mr. Hunziker spent his retirement years on Longboat Key and served as president of the Spanish Main Yacht Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and boating.
Mr. Hunziker was preceded in death by his first wife, Suzette Lovewell Hunziker. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kilpatrick Hunziker; sons Frederick III and Robert; daughter, Lynn Ann Hunter; stepchildren Christopher Walsh and Catherine Ann Breslin; four grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
