Local students know how to build fast (miniature) race cars.
Through the F1 in Schools program, students create mini race cars to bring to competitions later. Local race team, Slipstream, which is comprised of students from a range of schools countywide, left its footprint on a global competition.
Slipstream won fourth place at the World Finals competition earlier this week in Abu Dhabi. It also brought back the best marketing award.
The local team was the only United States team to receive a top five, 10 or 20 spot in the competition. England, Australia and Germany landed the top three spots at the World Finals this year.
F1 in Schools challenges youth ages 9 to 19 to use science, technology, engineering and mathematics to and certain software to work as a team to create an air powered wood formula1 car.
Teams must also raise sponsorship dollars and manage a budget for research, travel and accommodations.
