Alan Turow, 79, of Sarasota, died Nov. 13.

Born May 9, 1935, in Chicago, he married Goldijean Shaikun July 3, 1960. The couple remained married until her death Feb. 22, 2010. More recently, he and Sylvia Reed shared their lives as committed partners.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dr. Turow practiced medicine in Peoria, Ill., for more than 30 years until retiring in 1996.

Dr. Turow was a member of Anshai Emeth Congregation in Peoria and Temple Beth Israel on Longboat Key. In retirement, he was an active member of the community; he supported educational and civic organizations while volunteering his medical skills to Sarasota’s Senior Friendship Center.

Dr. Turow was preceded in death by his wife, Goldijean. He is survived by his children Stephen, Susan and Lawrence; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, in Sarasota. Interment followed at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery.
