ODA girls remain unbeaten

The Out-of-Door Academy girls swim team continued its undefeated season with a 156-134 victory over Port Charlotte Sept. 30.

Joie Eckhard won the 200- and 500-yard freestyles while Kate Patrice won the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly.

Imola Csendes captured the 100 freestyle. She then teamed up with Eckhard, Patrice and Reece Whatmore to win the 200 freestyle relay. Csendes, Eckhard, Patrice and Amber Bond won the 400 freestyle relay.

On the boys side, ODA fell to Port Charlotte 165-127, but several swimmers set new school records.
Zach Szmania set a new school record in the 200 individual medley, winning the event in 2 minutes, 23.75 seconds. He also broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:13.78.

Szmania then joined Charles Hayes, Matthew Leonard and Laszlo Tengerdy on the winning 200 medley relay team, which set a new school record with a time of 1:59.09.

Sarsen Whatmore broke his own school record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:29.12. Hayes won the 100 backstroke.

ODA returns to action tomorrow afternoon at Lemon Bay.
