A field report and aerial pictures forwarded from Sarasota County Administrator Tom Harmer to commissioners Saturday, show the Siesta Key public beach improvements taking shape.

The $21.5 million project, $16.5 million of which is earmarked for construction, is roughly 25% complete, according to a field report from contractor Sweet Sparkman Architects. And the new east concessions could soon be ready for commissioners to take a hardhat tour “since the stairs will be poured and installed soon,” said Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Director Carolyn Brown in an email to Harmer.

Commissioner Carolyn Mason responded Sunday requesting a tour.

The county held a groundbreaking ceremony for the improvements Jan. 22. Click here for a video from the event.
