Macy's to host charity shopping event

Big-box retailer Macy's is saying "Hello" to East County with a shopping-for-a-cause event this weekend.

From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 11, Macy's will host a charity shopping event that will benefit 30 Manatee and Sarasota counties charities, such as Brides Against Breast Cancer, Cat Depot and Myakka City Foundation.

Proceeds from $5 tickets customers can purchase at the event will benefit the named charities. Shoppers can also enjoy food, drinks and a chance to win a $500 gift card.

UTC opens Oct. 16.
