SIGN OF TROUBLE
2:55 p.m. — 2800 block of Eighth Street. Criminal Mischief. The principal of an elementary school observed on surveillance camera three youths roaming the school property. As they were leaving, one of the boys grabbed a sign attached to the wall, ripping it out before exiting the property. The boys were observed riding their bikes in the parking lot before leaving. One of the boys looked like a student, the principal said, but he couldn’t state with certainty the identity of any of them. The officer informed the principal he would try to make contact with the student in question to get more information.

Oct. 13
GET MY DRIFT?
2:34 p.m. — 1100 block of John Ringling Boulevard. Found Property. A boater found a kayak drifting near the John Ringling Causeway. The person who found the kayak brought it to the Sarasota Yacht Club for safekeeping. The officer alerted a towing company, who picked it up and stored the kayak in the event someone returned to find it.

WITHOUT A TRACE
7 p.m. — 3300 block of Eighth Street. Burglary — Structure. A woman reported that, after leaving her house for three hours, she returned home to find her front window and front door open. She said she locked the door when she left, but was not sure about the window. She believed someone entered through the window and left through the door. She said that whoever entered the house did not take anything before leaving. An officer contacted the woman’s neighbors, neither of who saw anything suspicious during the time she was out of the house.

MESSAGE UNDELIVERABLE
7:01 p.m. — 1100 block of Patterson Drive. Suspicion General. A man reported he had not been receiving his mail for roughly two months. The man lives in a small apartment behind the actual house at his address. A woman used to live in the house in front of the apartment but was kicked out roughly two months earlier. The man believed the woman may have been taking his mail since she got kicked out, but he had not seen her at the property. The man had not contacted the postal service to see if there were any misunderstandings regarding the mail delivery. An officer advised the man to do so before following up again.

BAGGAGE CLAIM
8:21 p.m. — 1900 block of Adams Lane. Found Property. A man alerted officers that he found a set of black luggage in his backyard. After an officer arrived, another man came to the scene to claim the luggage. He said he left the luggage behind to keep it dry. The officer verified that the luggage belonged to the man, and the property owner returned the luggage.
