Wild Goose Chase
3:39 p.m. Oct. 10. 3800 block of Osprey Ave. Shoplifting. A liquor store employee called police to report that a man entered the store, grabbed three half-gallon bottles of Grey Goose and walked out without paying. The man then walked around the building and left in a car with North or South Carolina tags, according to a witness.
Taking Out the Trash
4:18 p.m. Oct. 18. Corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Washington Boulevard. Dispute. Officers were dispatched to a disturbance in which two men were arguing over $10. One man claimed the other owed him $10 for picking up trash around his shop. The shop owner maintained that he told the man not to pick up any trash, as he didn't have any money to pay him, but that he picked up the trash anyway. The accuser stated that he didn't want any problems, just his $10. The officer advised the man not to go back to the property to do any work and for the men to stay away from each other.
Bounce With Me
1:39 a.m. Oct. 19. 1400 block of Main Street. Trespassing. Two bouncers at a downtown bar flagged down an officer to request he trespass an intoxicated man from the bar. According to the two bouncers, the man had been refused entry due to his level of intoxication and had been asked to leave 50 times before the officer was flagged down. The man stated that he did not understand and repeatedly demanded to see a manager. The officer explained the bar's right to refuse service, and he instructed the man to not return for one year.
Finders Keepers
8:16 a.m., Oct. 19. 2000 block of Eighth Street. Dispute/ Fight. A woman called police to report that her neighbor has been picking up the free shopper guides distributed each Sunday on the sidewalks in front of residences. The responding officer advised the woman that, even though the publications were free and left on the sidewalk, that she should check with the resident before taking them, as a courtesy, and to return the caller's copy. She said she had already returned the copy and would ask permission in the future.
