After a suggestion from a member at the August meeting, the Siesta Key Association board has decided to plan more social gatherings for its members.
Currently, the association meets all together once a year for an annual breakfast. However, everyone agreed SKA could add in more social events. Members debated between different kinds of gatherings, but ultimately decided a happy hour would be easy and fun.
Beverly Arias, a board member, agreed to look more into the options and organize an event in the Village. She suggested that off-season was a good time to have a SKA happy hour so that full-time residents could patronize the locally-owned venues in the Village. During season many residents don’t go into the Village because of the season crowding, she said. The board agreed to talk to businesses in the Village about the idea.
The association will also be participating again in the International Coastal Clean-up Day September 20. President Michael Shay asked members to confirm their participation with him so he could turn in the numbers to the county to get enough supplies and t-shirts.
During the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office report from Sergeant Scott Osborne, Shay asked about the large truck that had been parked in the public parking lot for about two weeks. Osborne said the vehicle was not parked illegally but had informed the owner that she could park it in her drive way.
SKA and the Siesta Key Village Association will hold a joint neighborhood meeting on hurricane preparedness from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 in Room F at St. Boniface Episcopal Church, 5615 Midnight Pass Road, Siesta.
