+ Cougars D comes up big with four turnovers
The Cardinal Mooney High defense forced four turnovers, including three interceptions, to propel the Cougars to a 44-7 victory over Lake Placid Sept. 13.

+ Mustangs break par in win, shoot a 143
The Lakewood Ranch High boys golf team broke par for the first time this season, shooting a combined 143 Sept. 16, at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club’s King’s Dunes course.

The Mustangs defeated Charlotte (163), Palmetto (200), Southeast (223) and Bayshore (which didn’t post a score due to having only one player).

Junior Kelly Sun shot a 2-under par 34 to earn match medalist honors. Sophomores Billy Herten and Louie DelFabro both shot 36. Freshman Mike Wijas added a 37.

+ ODA swimmers make big splash with wins
The Out-of-Door Academy boys and girls swim teams continued their winning streak, as both teams posted victories over Northside Christian Sept. 16.

ODA won a combined 15 of 22 events. Charles Hayes won the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Sarsen Whatmore also was a double winner, capturing the 200 and 500 freestyles. Matthew Leonard won the 100 breaststroke.

On the girls side, Kate Patrice won the 200 individual medley. Joie Eckhard won the 200 and 500 freestyles. Imola Csendes won the 50 freestyle before teaming up with Eckhard, Patrice and Quinn Birmingham for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Csendes, Eckhard, Patrice and Amber Bond won the 400 freestyle relay.

+ Thunder swings past Cougars
The Out-of-Door Academy boys golf team edged past Cardinal Mooney 156-158 Sept. 16, at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.

Max Coutsolioutsos shot 37 to lead the way for the Thunder. Jon Eichenbaum shot 38 followed by Evan Murphy (40), Francisco Marcano Santos, who had an eagle on the third hole (41) Nick Grano (46) and Josh Silverman (47).

Kyle Jarrett shot 37 to lead the way for Cardinal Mooney. Jake LaMore and Dalton Plattner each shot 39 followed by Harrison Jones (43), Mabry Robinson (46) and Sean McNelis (49).

East Manatee Bulldogs post wins
Four East Manatee Bulldog football teams posted wins versus the South Tampa Titans Sept. 20.

The Mitey Mite squad shutout the Titans 28-0. Kevin Everhart scored a 55-yard touchdown. Tavon Derisma scored on punt returns of 43 and 21 yards. Issac Ashley had a 34-yard touchdown and Lucas Caraher had an interception.

The PeeWee team blanked South Tampa 28-0. Markel McWhite, Corbin Blackstone, Robby Goecker and Cameron Heald all had touchdowns for East Manatee.

Dionte McFarland scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the East Manatee Junior Midget squad to a 34-6 victory.

The Junior PeeWee team posted a 38-0 victory while the Unlimited squad fell to the Pinellas Park Rebels 26-14.

On Sept. 18, the East Manatee Bulldog cheerleaders went to Lakewood Ranch High to cheer alongside the Mustangs cheerleaders during the school’s JV football game.
