Ever wonder why you have an overly oily T-zone? Or why you break out in one part of your face but not the other? Your body could actually be playing Sherlock in this game of mystery. The human body is made up of many individual parts that work together in a highly interactive and coordinated way, and all-natural practitioners know that topical treatments are short-term remedies to skin and acne problems.

What you put inside your body directly affects what it looks like on the outside. The Michio Kushi Theory contends that a weakness or toxicity in certain organs or glands can cause acne on certain areas of the face.

Acne is often thought of as a normal part of adolescence, which is partly true. Acne is merely a symptom that is accentuated by the rapid growth and change of a normal teenage body. Toxins often cleanse through the skin, and when hormonal imbalances overstimulate the oil glands, impurities will often affect the skin, and this can clog pores. Acne is the body's reaction to those clogged pores.

The list below describes the areas of the face that could be associated with possible internal ailments:

  • The forehead: intestines
  • Above the eyebrows:  liver
  • Between the eyes: spleen
  • Bridge of the nose: male reproductive system
  • Cheeks: lungs
  • Tip of nose or ears: heart
  • Creases at base of nostrils: brain
  • Upper lip: stomach
  • Lower lip: intestines
  • Corners of mouth: fallopian tubes
  • Chin: uterus or ovaries
  • Jaw line: female reproductive system
  • Chest: lungs
  • Back: intestines

Remember: these reactions are merely your body telling you that, in some way, it's suffering. Make sure you rest and recharge your batteries. Stress often triggers and worsens hormonal imbalances. Try working with a hormone specialist to check your levels and treat accordingly. Treatment might be as simple as changing your diet or starting a supplement regiment.
