Mustangs hold off Bobcats

Lakewood Ranch left-fielder Shane Zipperer threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the seventh inning of the Mustangs’ 3-2 district victory against North Port April 9. 

Zipperer also had two hits. Brendan Lewellen, Brandon Lam, Logan Clark and Colton Zimring all had a hit. 

Zimring pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief to earn the win for Lakewood. 

Cardinal Mooney wins district crown 

The Cardinal Mooney boys lacrosse team defeated rival The Out-of-Door Academy 22-4 to win the District 16 championship April 10. 

Reagan Griffith scored five goals to lead the way for the Cougars. Tommy Vassallo and Jack Koscho added three goals each. 

Ian Martin and Leland Wheeler each scored a pair of goals for ODA. 

Cougars notch district win

The Cardinal Mooney baseball team beat Bradenton Christian 12-6 in district action April 9. 

T. Hebda went 3-for-4 to lead the way for the Cougars at the plate. Tyler Garris and Dean Visaggio both went 2-for-4. Josh Bonynge added a three-run home run. 

Tyler Mattes pitched four innings to earn the win on the mound. 

Pirates to hold basketball camp

Braden River High is now accepting registration for its 11th annual Summer Basketball Camp. 

The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 8 through June 11; June 15 through June 18; and June 22 through June 25. 

Participants will improve their fundamentals through a variety of skills and drills, including individual instruction from Braden River coaches and players, skill stations, competitions and team games. Three awards will be handed out at the end of each day of camp. 

The camp is open to all students entering third through ninth grades at a cost of $120 for one week, $220 for two weeks or $315 for all three weeks. Participants registered before June 1 will receive a T-shirt and basketball.

BRSC to hold tournament this weekend

Braden River Soccer Club will host the Bradenton Cup April 18 and April 19. 

More than 160 teams from across the state will participate in the tournament, which will be held at the BRSC fields at Lakewood Ranch Park located behind Lakewood Ranch High as well as Braden River Park.
