Now that the smell of spring flowers is in the air, let's take a cue from the rising temperatures and make room in our makeup bags for some hot spring makeup trends!
Matte lips are at the top of the charts this season with fearless hues ranging from fierce fuchsia to burnt orange. I'm slowing trying to wean myself off all things cranberry, and one of my new favorite shades helping me transition is "Framboise" from an incredible new line called BITE. The line is a collection of water-resistant, long-wearing lip colors in beautiful nudes, striking reds and deep burgundies with a matte, yet moist texture.
Wondering what to pair with a bold lip? Go with delicate, neutral eyes. Remember: neutral doesn't mean boring. Instead of using dark plums, blues or black, stick to a palette of rosy pinks, light caramels and soft sepia tones.
Go with sophisticated mattes, or mix it up with iridescent hues like the soft and sexy shadow collection, "Boudoir Eyes" from Too Faced. This is a great palette for beginners, as all the colors are coordinated together to give you three looks that include day, classic and fashion.
A sun-kissed glow should also be part of your springtime regiment. I happen to be one of those rare Floridian creatures who is as pale as the white wicker love seat in your grandmother’s sun room, so sun worshiping is most definitely out of the question. (Actually, sun worshiping should be out of the question for everyone, dark or fair! Skin cancer isn't pretty on anyone.)
If you're not used to using bronzer, make sure you start with a shade that's only one or two shades darker than your skin tone. I generally use a matte bronzer in the colder months and leave my shimmer bronzers for the spring and summer, because I use less (if any) foundation, and I like the almost dewy effect you get from the iridescence.
Using a brush with soft short bristles, swipe bronzer along the sides of your forehead, down your cheek beneath your cheekbone and along your jawline in the shape of the number 3.
Remember that the bronzer is only to be used in the places on your face with shadows (under cheekbones and under jawline) and where the sun would normally hit. Don't forget to sweep some bronzer down the bridge of your nose and right on your chin for a natural sun-kissed look glow!
