Phillippi Shores wins at national music festival

Students from Phillippi Shores Elementary fourth- and fifth-grade classes represented the school April 11 at the Music USA Festivals at Universal Studios Orlando.

The Primary Years Program drum group took first place in the Elementary Percussion Ensemble category. A total of 13 students participated in the competition.

The 48-student Phillippi Chorus won second place in the Elementary Concert Choir Division for the third year in a row.

Under the direction of music teacher Peggy Conrad, both groups are scheduled to perform May 2 at the InspireSarasota! arts festival in downtown Sarasota.

Cardinal Mooney helps the homeless

In a combined effort between the National Honor Society and A Plan for Good, Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School students collected gently used blankets and toiletries for the homeless in Sarasota County.

Founder of A Plan for Good, Nick Owens, worked with Cardinal Mooney seniors Tyler Shanahan and Jordan Weber to coordinate the collection. The collection occurred in February and March.
