Seymour Charles Rudges, 96, of Longboat Key and formerly of New York, died Aug. 1.
Mr. Rudges enlisted in the Army right after Pearl Harbor, attaining the rank of captain, and was the commander of the camp in the Philippines, housing flag-ranked Japanese POWs at the time of the surrender.
He was a graduate of the New York University School of Law. He practiced law, had an insurance brokerage and was active in real estate.
Mr. Rudges was an avid collector of oriental antiques and was able to indulge his passion for exotic travel. He loved his family, his friends and his life.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Judy; two daughters; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
