The hours of operation for Siesta Beach were up for debate in 1985 when residents living in beachfront condominiums requested a 10 p.m. curfew. Residents submitted letters to the County Commission complaining about local youths causing a ruckus in the beach and parking lot. At the request of the commission, a report from deputies and Parks and Recreation was conducted to determine what, if any actions, should be taken. During a period of three months as many as 200 people were observed after dark at the beach. In that time there were 41 disturbance calls, one disorderly intoxication call and 19 cases of underage drinking reported. Ultimately ithe midnight curfew for the beach was upheld.
