BUSTED: This week in police reports — 8.06.15

July 31

WHEEL MISFORTUNE

8 a.m. — 1900 block of Ringling Boulevard

Theft: A man locked his bicycle in the first floor of a parking garage before going to work. When he returned to the garage, he found someone had removed the rear wheel of his bicycle. Officers noticed a second bike that had its rear tire removed as well, but found no surveillance cameras pointed in the direction of the bike.

JACKHAMMER TIME

7:53 p.m. — 3100 block of Fruitville Road

Suspicion: An anonymous caller reported a suspicious person drilling the floor of a bank with a jackhammer. Officers made contact with the man, the foreman of a tile company. The man stated he was hired by the bank to remove and replace the old tile, and that workers from his company would be at the bank all weekend in an effort to finish the job in the lobby.

POWERLESS

10:36 p.m. — 4000 block of North Tamiami Trail

Dispute: A man checked into a hotel, went into his room and discovered the refrigerator and microwave did not work. He attempted to get a refund from the front desk, but the clerk denied his request. An officer spoke to the clerk to find out why the man was not offered a refund, and was told the man could not get a full refund because he had turned down the sheets already. The clerk said the man could get $50 of his $75 returned, an offer the man accepted.

Aug. 1

CAT SCRATCH FEVER

11:38 a.m. — 300 block of West Cornelius Circle

Misc. Officer: A woman alerted officers that her neighbor’s cat is constantly on her vehicle, leaving scratch marks and paw prints as a result. The woman attempted to speak with the neighbor, but was blown off when she brought up the issue. The officer suggested the woman call animal control, but the woman said animal control told her they only respond to injured cats. The officer told the woman this was a civil incident, and was unsuccessful when attempting to contact the neighbor.

TRANSIT TROUBLE

5:49 p.m. — 2900 block of Old Bradenton Road

Suspicion: A bus driver said that, as she was driving the vehicle, she heard a loud pop and crash from the back driver side window. She said she did not see anything that would have caused the window to shatter, and the officer did not see any evidence that would indicate a crime.
