SWAP MEET
3:54 p.m. — 1100 block of Patterson Drive
Dispute: A woman complained that an acquaintance of hers was refusing to assume control of the title of a car and give her the tag to the vehicle. In April, the two women went together to buy a car. The acquaintance paid for the car, and the woman put the vehicle in her own name. The woman now wants to sign the vehicle over to the acquaintance, but the acquaintance is unwilling to stop by to complete the swap. Officers informed the woman that the dispute was a civil matter.
THE FIX IS IN
4 p.m. — 0 block of Gulf Stream Avenue
Suspicion: A woman attempted to contact an Internet provider for IT support with a phone number she found online. She made contact with an employee who said he could fix her computer, so she gave her property to him. The employee did not request any payment or financial information. The woman became concerned when she called a different number for the Internet provider and was told nobody by the purported employee’s name worked for the company. The woman did not believe her information had been compromised, however.
SEPARATION ANXIETY
5 p.m. — 1700 block of South Tamiami Trail
Dispute: A man visited the hospital and valet parked his car. When he was ready to leave the hospital, the valet was unable to locate the vehicle. The man checked multiple parking areas and couldn’t find the car. An officer conducted a search and discovered no car with the given description was registered in the man’s name. The man said that was impossible, but a further search indicated his wife had the vehicle registered solely in her name a month earlier. The man said he and his wife were going through a divorce and he had moved out, but they were still working at the same place. He said she did not know he was at the hospital, and he wasn’t sure if she still had a key to the car. When contacted via phone, the wife said she knew he was at the hospital because he told her he was going there. She then went to the hospital, located the car and left with it.
