AUG. 7

GRILL GETS GREEN LIGHT
1:02 p.m. — 3300 block of GMD
Code Enforcement: Police responded to a report of a fire on the beach and found a closed cooking grill, which is allowed by town ordinance.

TRAILER TROUBLE
1:20 p.m. — 7000 block of Firehouse Road
Traffic: A woman complained about a large boat trailer parked on the road in front of her house. Police made several calls to contact the owner but drove by the house the next day and discovered someone moved the trailer onto the property. No further action was taken.

AUG. 8

WALKING AWAY
6:42 a.m. — 6000 block of GMD
Disturbance: A woman told police the she and her live-in boyfriend got into a heated argument about lying and cheating after a night of drinking. Police found the boyfriend in a nearby parking lot. He explained that his girlfriend woke him and began accusing him of cheating on her. He went to get something to eat to cool off and was later seen walking north over Longboat Pass Bridge.

GET OUT OF MY VAN
9:04 a.m. — 500 block of Harbourside Drive
Disturbance: The driver of a shuttle service van transporting a woman to Tampa International Airport told her to get out of his van after she was verbally abusive to him for being late, and he got offended when she asked him what race he was. Police persuaded both parties not to speak to each other en route to the airport, and the driver agreed to let her back in his van.

FALSE ALARM
1:36 p.m. —Off the Key
Rescue: Someone called police from their car to report someone jumping from the Longboat Pass Bridge. The bridge tender and fishermen in the area told police they didn’t see anyone jump from the bridge.

STORM CRASH
3:07 p.m. — Off the Key
Boat: A pontoon boat and speedboat collided in the Intracoastal Waterway near Sister Keys during a bad thunderstorm, causing heavy damage to the pontoon boat, which started taking on water. There were no injuries.

AUG. 9

S.O.S
6:07 a.m. — Off the Key
Boat: Marine patrol observed a sunken boat at the bottom of the bay. Police checked the registration and left a message for the owner to let him know his boat sunk. 

SWIMMING IN THE BUFF
8:42 a.m. — 1000 block of Longboat Club Road
Code Enforcement: A man told police he saw a male swimming nude in the Gulf. Police saw the man walking down the beach with a swimsuit on and confronted him. He admitted to swimming nude and apologized. He told police he was returning to the United Kingdom in 10 days.

WE’RE CLOSED
11:13 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD
Security Check: Police found the front door to a restaurant unlocked and found nothing missing inside. The business owner arrived to lock the door and told police a new server forgot to shut off the lights and lock the door.

AUG. 10

WALLET RECOVERED
11:16 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway
Found Property: A condominium manager flagged down police and handed over a pink women’s wallet he found in the Broadway beach access parking lot

COLLECTING HER BELONGINGS
12:30 p.m. — 100 block of Broadway
Found Property: A woman arrived at the police station and was able to verify that a purse that was found belonged to her.

SUSPICIOUS VESSEL
3:01 p.m. — 3500 block of Mistletoe Lane
Boat: A property manager told police his security system picked up an unknown suspicious boat in the canal near the community over the weekend. Police looked at the video and confirmed the boat was sitting in a canal near a well-known fishing hole. No further action was taken. 

AUG. 11

DISARMING THE HOUSE
11:52 a.m. — 500 block of Hornblower Lane
Disturbance: A woman told police she was fighting with her husband earlier that morning and wanted it documented that he keeps guns in the home. Her two adult sons came over to the house after her husband left and found guns. The husband decided to leave town to spend time alone in their Georgia home and took the guns and some of his clothes with him.

RUFFLED FEATHERS
8:59 p.m. — 400 block of GMD
Disturbance: A man told police that his kids were swimming in a condominium pool when a man wearing a dress with feathers in his hair frightened them, began screaming vulgarities at them and telling them they were too loud. Police found the man next door and confirmed he was wearing a dress and had feathers in his hair. Police warned him about his behavior and he apologized.
