Aug. 23, 1979
For a 1979 issue, Pelican Press photographer Rebecca Wild Baxter strapped into a parasail for a photo assignment. From the view above, she was able to capture sweeping views of Siesta Beach — and most likely, a bit of a tan. Sea Sports Parasailing Club helped make the ride possible and ensured smooth sailing.

Aug. 20, 2009

Riverview High School reopened its doors to the public and students following a complete overhaul of the school's campus. The project cost an estimated $120 million to complete with a design by BMK Architects. Elements of the new design reflected the original architecture of the previous structure that was designed by Paul Rudolph and completed in 1958.

Aug. 19, 1982

The second Beach Patrol contest brought out the best in lifeguards along the coast of Sarasota County for competitions in which contestants used every piece of life-saving equipment they have. Male and female lifeguards from Siesta Key, South Lido and Turtle beaches represented the winning north team, with Nokomis, North Jetties, Venice and Manasota guards representing the south team.
