Manatee County School District releases district facts

About 48,000 students will be enrolled for the 2015-2016 year.

As Manatee County public schools gears up for the first day of school Monday, the district released a numerical fact sheet about the schools.

Manatee County School District predicts about 48,000 students will be enrolled this year, a 1,000-student growth from the 2014-2015 year. The district employs about 2,730 teachers at its 33 elementary, 11 middle and seven high schools.

Schools in East County will be experiencing the most growth in the district. About 50% of the 1000 students matriculating into the school system this year will be attending one of East County’s 13 schools, Danny Lundeen, the supervisor of student demographics, said.

The district is operating on a $600 million budget this year.

Shirin Gibson and Cheryl McGrew are two new faces of East County schools. The two women are new principals at B.D. Gullett Elementary School Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary School, respectively.
