+Sarasota sails to pair of Thanksgiving Shootout wins 

The Sarasota High girls basketball team went 2-0 in the Lady Sailors Thanksgiving Shootout Nov. 27 and Nov. 28. 

The host Lady Sailors opened the tournament with a 56-13 victory versus Cardinal Mooney Nov. 27. 

Madison Pack and Imani Jones both finished in double figures for Sarasota with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Freshman Hailey Rosenhaus added nine points, going 3-for-5 from behind the arc. 

Sarasota followed up its win with a 55-24 victory versus Lake Wales Nov. 28. 

Pack led the way with 14 points and five rebounds. Ja’da Bennett added 13 points and four rebounds. 

The Lady Sailors return to action at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3, at district rival Lakewood Ranch. 

+Blazers post victory 

The Sarasota Christian boys basketball team breezed to a 79-44 victory versus the Gulf Coast HEAT Dec. 1. 

Brandon Bontrager finished with 14 points to lead the way for the Blazers. Jordan Litwiller and Kyle Lantz added 11 points apiece. 

With the win, Sarasota Christian improved to 4-1 on the season. 

 

+Orioles to host annual Birdland Classic 

The Baltimore Orioles will hold their Sixth Annual OriolesREACH Birdland Golf Classic Feb. 22, at The Founders Club, in Sarasota. 

Registration for the event, which will tee off with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., is now open. This year’s classic will feature lunch, a silent auction and the opportunity to play a round of golf with current and former Orioles players and coaches. 

Several levels of sponsorship opportunities also are available, including MVP sponsor packages, which include a foursome with the opportunity to select your Orioles playing partner, four infield box seats to a 2016 Orioles Spring Training game and more. 

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Miracle League of Manasota, an organization that provides an opportunity for everyone to play baseball, regardless of his or her ability. Since it’s inception, the Birdland Golf Classic has raised more than $150,000 for the Miracle League of Manasota.
