To borrow a phrase from Harold Zidler, owner of The Moulin Rouge in the titular film, Designing Women Boutique’s annual style show and gala dinner was “Spectacular! Spectacular!” Guests were “dumb with wonderment” with one of the best fashion shows in the event’s 10-year history. Produced by Jean Weidner-Goldstein and Carolyn Michel, who also emceed, and styled by Lauren Walsh, Joan Campo-Liga and Vicki Hornberger, the fashion show had gobs of models, including Sandra Day (who’s strutted the runway every year), Beneva Fruitville and a performance by the Sailor Circus Academy.
The fashions were so fabulous that the “voice from above,” Brent Greeno, reminded people that they were all from Designing Women Boutique, which had just received a large donation of evening gowns and ballroom dancing costumes from Sarasota’s dancing queen, Beverly Marsh.
Co-Chairs Renee Hamad and Kathy Coffey also wore feathered and bejeweled costumes created by Bill Fenner. Lastly, making it “so exciting and so delighting,” was the fact that all three founders — Diane Roskamp, Jean Weidner-Goldstein and Margaret Wise — were all in attendance.
