Robert Lynn ‘Bob’ Washington, 79, of Longboat Key, died Jan. 31.

Born Sept. 22, 1935, in Indiana, Pa., Mr. Washington served as a U.S. Army gunner for two years in Germany and one in Colorado before being discharged in 1963 and establishing his home in Pleasant Hills, Pa. After a career with the U.S. Postal Service, he retired and relocated to Longboat Key in 1990. He was a long-term resident and man-about-the-property of the Gulfshore community.

A man of many interests and friends, he could fix almost anything. He loved breakfast with his buddies, the Florida sunshine, reading, fishing, golf and appearing as Elvis and Tom Jones with the Gulfshore Players at many of its annual galas.

Mr. Washington is survived by his wife, Clara; daughters Lynn Ann Washington, of Pittsburgh, Cynthia Marie Hess, of Anna, Ohio, and Debra Jean Somconis, of Pittsburgh; and four grandchildren.

A lunch and celebration of life will take place from noon to 3 p.m. March 14, at the Gulfshore Clubhouse.
Donations can be made to Mote Marine Laboratory, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota, FL 34236 or at mote.org.
