Property Found: Police found metal adjustable clamps and plumbing equipment. The officer placed the items at the station for safekeeping.

Feb. 5
Different tastes
1:48 p.m. — 600 block of Triton Bend.
Civil Disturbance: A man was having trouble with his home decorator, whose style was not according to his taste. After he tried to terminate their contract, the decorator’s boyfriend got on the phone and told him not to talk to his girlfriend that way. The decorator’s boyfriend told him he was in the Special Forces for 14 years, which the man believes was an intimidation attempt. The boyfriend dropped off keys to the home while police were still there.

Why did the chickens cross the road?
4:54 p.m. — 500 block of Bayview Drive. 
Animal: A caller reported that chickens were running around on the road. A woman who lives on the street told police that the town notified her that she needed to remove her free range chickens. She moved four chickens out to her farm in Myakka but is keeping two at her home because one is hurt and needs company. She plans to move the pair to Myakka as soon as the chicken is feeling better.

You’ve got missing mail
8:46 a.m. — 5600 block of GMD.
Lost/Missing Property: A man received a postal package from his daughter that was damaged during shipping. He later discovered that mail that belongs to his daughter was missing from inside the package, which had been opened and secured with packing tape.

Makeup meal
7:59 p.m. — 4900 block of GMD.
Domestic Disturbance: A woman and her boyfriend got into an argument with her 23-year-old son over use of the car. The woman kicked her son out of the car in a grocery store parking lot. The son’s girlfriend went to a convenience store and called 911 so matters wouldn’t escalate. Police found the son walking home and drove him back to the scene. Everyone involved agreed the argument was over and that they would go to dinner together.

Feb. 7
What happens on Longboat stays on Longboat
12:53 a.m. — 2300 block of Harbour Oaks Drive.
Suspicious Circumstance: A woman reported that an unknown female was stumbling around outside and knocked on her door and her neighbor’s door. The stumbling woman said she had been drinking at a bar on the Key with two men whose names she didn’t know. Police gave her a ride to the cottage where she is staying on the Key.

When it leaks, it pours
12:49 p.m. — 4800 block of GMD.
Suspicious Circumstance:
After his ceiling started leaking from the unit above it, a man wanted the incident documented. He told police he discovered water droplets throughout the unit when he and his wife returned to the unit in October, and the showerhead nearly exploded when he tried to take a shower because of a piece of lint that was stuck inside. He said there are water spots throughout the unit and that it looked like someone attempted to fix a hole in the ceiling. His wife’s Michael Kors shoes were also missing. The man believes the latest incident is related to remodeling work in the unit above his. He has had issues with his condo association in the past and does not believe the association is paying enough attention to his complaint.

Soliciting: Police told two men who were selling magazines that they were in violation of town ordinances. Police gave both men written warnings.

Feb. 8
Safety first
10:05 a.m. — 500 block of Rountree Drive.
Code Enforcement: Police warned a construction foreman about the town’s construction noise ordinance. The foreman said he is aware of the ordinance but had to secure roof trusses that had fallen down and were creating a safety hazard.

Feb. 9
When you’ve gotta go
11:24 a.m. — 6400 block of GMD.
Suspicious Person: A property manager said that a young man walked into the church to use the bathroom then walked out of the church through the parking lot. The man returned to the church and told the manager he was waiting for his friend to pick him up and asked him to call the friend to see where he was. The manager called three times but received no answer and told the man to wait outside. A short time later, he saw the man leaving the office bathroom again and decided something wasn’t right, so he called police.

Feb. 10
Blame game
8:52 a.m. — Linley Street.
Boat Violation: A man told police he did not have his registration with him in his boat. Police told him the boat isn’t registered. The man then said his wife and her parents are responsible for the registration. Police issued him two citations.

Feb. 11
Three-way caller
11:35 a.m. — 500 block of Ranger Lane.
Public Service: A woman discovered that someone, possibly her ex-husband, added three lines to her Verizon account. A Verizon representative requested the woman file a report when she called to disconnect the lines. Police were unable to locate anyone at the three numbers.

Faulty finding
1:19 p.m. — 4200 block of GMD.
Fraud: A woman received a bill from PayPal stating that she owes $750 and filed a fraud report, but PayPal verified her report as fraudulent. Police told the woman how to protect her identity and secure her credit bureau information.
