Customers at a local Starbucks got an unexpected jolt after a vehicle plowed into the coffee shop this afternoon.

The Starbucks at 3571 Bee Ridge Road was evacuated after a driver crashed a vehicle into the business’ glass storefront. Emergency services responded to a call about the incident at 1:35 p.m. today.

The crash occurred after a woman drove over a wheel stop in the parking lot and into the structure itself, according to Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kaitlyn Johnston. The crash shattered some glass and also damaged the frames of the window, she said, and authorities are currently in the process of clearing the scene.

Nobody was injured as a result of the crash, and no significant structural damage was done to the building, according to Sarasota Fire Department Capt. Jerry Jensen. Although the interior of the store was evacuated after the incident, the drive-through window remained open, according to employees.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
