Good pick for Pick

St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church Reverend Emeritus Edward Pick was born in 1935 and ordained to the priesthood in 1960.

But, on his 80th birthday, during a celebration after Feb. 22 church services, he told parishioners his life really began when he was assigned to Longboat Key in 1973.

There was no Catholic church on the Key at the time, so he became founding reverend of St. Mary.

“Father Edward Pick is, and will always be, the integral part of the history of Longboat Key,” St. Mary member Mary Elizabeth Carey said. “Sunday was his 80th birthday. He celebrated the occasion at his beloved church in the presence of an overflow crowd of grateful parishioners.”
