Amazing Admirals
After winning the Lightning Cup Feb. 15, the Manatee Admirals hockey team won the state championship Sunday at the Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex in a best-of-three series against the East Side Mutts of Miami.

The Admirals defeated the Mutts in two games, scoring 18 goals compared with East Side’s two.

In Saturday’s 10-1 victory, Lakewood Ranch sophomore Dominick Tmej made 18 saves, and David Tmej recorded a hat trick.

In Sunday’s 8-1 victory, Lakewood Ranch’s Rhett Rampinelli recorded a hat trick, and David Tmej scored two goals. Dominick Tmej stopped 20 shots.

Not only did the Manatee Admirals finish the season with a win, they didn’t lose a game all season, recording 23 wins.

The Admirals will head to St. Louis to compete in the USA national tournament March 19, competing in Tier 2 against other combined teams.

Ranch basketball team sets records

The Lakewood Ranch boys basketball team completed a historic season, recording the most wins in team history with 21.

Four players averaged more than seven points per game: Sam Hester (10.1), Cameron Darby (8.1), Damien Gordon (7.9) and Devin Twenty (7.1).

The Mustangs also held opponents to 36% shooting and averaged more than eight points more per game than their opponents.

The team’s average GPA was 3.499 unweighted.

MLS comes to Lakewood Ranch
Several Major League Soccer teams gathered Feb. 16, at the Polo Grill in Lakewood Ranch, for a meet and greet event for an upcoming preseason tournament at IMG Academy in Bradenton.Several representatives from MLS clubs spoke with fans before taking part in an autograph session.

Games run through Feb. 28.

Junior Golf Camp registration
The Golf Academy at Lakewood Ranch will hold a junior golf camp from March 30 to April 3.

The camp offers full swing instruction, video analysis and course play. Cost is $250.
