Elhanan “Elky” Stone, 85, of Longboat Key, died Dec. 27.
Mr. Stone was known in the advertising and entertainment fields as a skilled lawyer and spent 25 years at Ted Bates Worldwide, where he served as executive vice president and general counsel.
He led committees of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, negotiating several national contracts with the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
After Ted Bates was acquired, Mr. Stone was a counsel to Hall, Dickler, Kent, Friedman & Wood and Reed Smith LLP, examining topics such as electronic and online rights contracts for advertising performers.
He enjoyed skiing with his sons, fishing, sports, a good cigar and traveling the world.
Mr. Stone was a dedicated alumnus of Roxbury Latin School, Harvard College and Harvard Law School. He was elected president of the Board of Education in Stamford, Conn., in the 1970s. He served two years in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Office in Germany after graduating law school in 1955 and, later, in the U.S. Department of Justice antitrust division.
An ardent Red Sox fan, he reveled in the team’s World Series championships.
Mr. Stone is survived by his wife and debate partner, Mimi Stone; sons Mark Stone and Peter “Hopper” Stone; stepson, David Wallace; two granddaughters; brother, Harris Stone; and sister, Syril Solomon.
Funeral services were held Dec. 30, in Newton, Mass.
