Dr. Donald Lemon, 101, of Longboat Key, died Jan. 2.
Born Jan. 18, 1913, in La Grange, Ill., Dr. Lemon was a graduate of Northwestern University and practiced dentistry in La Grange for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association.
Dr. Lemon was a World War II Navy veteran and studied painting and sculpting at the Chicago Art Institute.
Upon retiring in 1967, Dr. Lemon moved to Longboat Key and pursued a career in fine arts for 20 years; his paintings hung in multiple galleries. He was a member of the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, a Division of Ringling College of Art and Design, Northwestern University Club of Sarasota and Christ Episcopal Church in Bradenton.
Dr. Lemon was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Lemon, and his second wife, Aileen Elder Lemon. He is survived by his son, John, of Nokomis; daughter, Nancy Walsh, of Longboat Key; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 14, in the Christ Episcopal Church chapel, 4030 Manatee Ave. W, Bradenton.
