When it comes to fashion, thread and fabric are just so ... passé. Where are the newsprint suits? What about paper-lantern dresses, baby-food-container gowns or Christmas-tree-branch skirts?
Well, for the last six years, they've been on display at Art Center Sarasota's annual art show/fashion show hybrid, Iconcept.
The annual fundraising event showcases local artists and models in a runway show, which features wearable art forged from unconventional materials. This year's show is shaping up to be just as exciting.
This Thursday, Jan. 22, 20 artists will display their work at the runway show, complete with silent auction and comedic entertainment by hosts Joey Panek and Christine Alexander.
Themes and materials for the seventh annual event include coffee filters, dog-waste bags, balloons, baby bottles, newspaper pages and tons of other imaginative adaptations.
Funds raised from the event go toward Art Center Sarasota's youth education program. General admission is $50, and a ticket including dinner, dessert, wine and the fashion show is $150 or $1,500 for a table of 10.
