Obituary: Dr. Adele Fiderer

Dr. Adele Fiderer, of Longboat Key and Rye Brook, N.Y., died Jan. 12.

Born in 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dr. Fiderer graduated from Pembroke College and then received a master’s degree from Iona College and a doctor of education from Columbia University.

Dr. Fiderer taught in the Scarsdale, N.Y., school system for more than 25 years. In addition to teaching elementary school students, she was a mentor to new teachers and taught creative writing techniques to peers.

After retiring in 1992, Dr. Fiderer wrote seven books for teachers that were widely read. She taught a memoir writing class at the Longboat Key Education Center for many years. She was an avid tennis and bridge player and loved traveling and the Sarasota Opera and Sarasota Ballet.

Dr. Fiderer is survived by her husband of 64 years, Martin; son, David; and four grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Jan. 15, in Scarsdale. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 1, at Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Road.
