After just finishing a performance and workshops in late June for dancers and companies from around the state and country at the Florida Dance Festival, the Fuzión Dance Artists company is holding their own dance intensive at their home court at the New College of Florida.

Running from July 25 through August 1, the festival is a dancing intensive with several classes, workshops and presentations of original pieces being presented throughout the week. The week is supposed to foster creativity and a love of dance. "The performance week is promoting inclusion, exploration, and contemporary artists," says Leymis Bolaños-Wilmott, co-founder and artistic director of Fuzión, in a prepared statement. "Our mission is to present a range of contemporary dance for a multi-generational and multi-cultural audience.”

Besides the week of learning and creation of new works, the Bubble Dance Co. will present their exploratory work titled "Bubble Dance" in an unorthodox performance space: the New College of Florida Fitness Center's racquetball court.

Performed and choreographed by Bubble Dance Co. co-founders Shannon Healey and Debbie Maciel, both recent graduates from the University of Florida's BFA dance program, the "Bubble Dance" explores the notion of one's own personal space. Performed inside a racquetball court, the audience will move in and out of the confines of the court to experience the spacial change and relationship to the dancers and their own ever-changing personal boundaries and space.

“Being asked to reset and rework 'Bubble Dance' at the Fuzión Dance intensive is such a fun and exciting honor,” says Maciel, in a prepared statement. “Shannon and I love this work, both performing and adapting it, and think Sarasota is a perfect city and community to share it with. We are both so grateful to Fuzión for the opportunity to come dance and play with them, and give our Bubble its Florida premiere.”

The performances of the "Bubble Dance" will run from July 29 through 31 (6 and 7:30 p.m. on July 29 and 30 and 12:30 p.m. on July 31) and will be $15 for admission and Fuzión Dance Artists requests you to RSVP for the event due to limited space. There will be a Q&A after each performance with Healey and Maciel.
