Frank Kveton, 85, of Longboat Key and Jericho, N.Y., died July 10.

Born Oct. 21, 1929, in New York City, Dr. Kveton grew up in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, attending PS 158 and Stuyvesant High School, where he was a member of the class of 1947. He graduated from St. John’s University, followed by SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in 1954, and completed an internship at at Meadowbrook Hospital in East Meadow.

Dr. Kveton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving as a captain and flight surgeon from 1955 to 1957. Following his discharge, he completed a residency in radiology and practiced at Mid Island Hospital, in Bethpage, N.Y., for 41 years, eventually serving as a managing partner of Mid Island Radiology Associates.

As a teenager, Dr. Kveton and his family began summering in Bayville, N.Y., where he met his wife-to-be, Eleanor. They married in 1953 and raised their three children in Laurel Hollow.

Dr. Kveton was a lifelong member of Sokol of NY, where he became an accomplished gymnast. He was an AAU men’s junior champion in 1947. He was also a skilled water skier in his youth and an avid boater all his life. He served as commodore of Whaler’s Cove Yacht Club in Cold Spring Harbor.

Upon retiring, Dr. and Mrs. Kveton spent winter months on Longboat Key.

Dr. Kveton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor; daughters Susan and Ellen; son, Richard; three grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
