TripAdvisor names Mote the fifth best aquarium in the U.S.

TripAdvisor has named Mote Marine Aquarium fifth in its list of the top U.S. aquariums in its 2015 Travelers’ Choice awards.

Mote moved up five spots from placing 10th last year. It was also named the 15th best aquarium in the world.

“We are extremely thankful of our guests who have enjoyed their visit and have shared their thoughts on TripAdvisor,” Mote Assistant Vice President Evan Barniskis said in a news release. “They are the reason we have moved up five spots from last year.”

The awards are based on reviews from TripAdvisor travelers. The list of the top 25 was decided using an algorithm that looked at the quantity and quality of reviews for zoos and aquariums during a 12-month span.

Many of the reviews for Mote mention its limited-time exhibit, Oh Baby!, which focuses on baby marine animals and will be open through Sept. 27.

“The Travelers’ Choice awards are recognizing the top zoos and aquariums around the world that are the favorites of the TripAdvisor community,” TripAdvisor Chief Marketing Officer Barbara Messing said. “Travelers visiting these award-winning attractions can get a close look and learn about the magnificent creatures that inhabit the world around us.”
