Rick Springfield to rock out the Van Wezel

Fans of power pop-rock will have plenty of fuel to stoke their rock and roll heart on October 15. 1980s radio rock staples Rick Springfield and the band the Romantics are stopping by the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall that night at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale July 31 at 10 a.m. 

Known equally for suave good looks and catchy guitar hooks, Rick Springfield has had one of the most unique career trajectories in rock and roll music. Born just outside of Sydney, Australia, Springfied grew up in a military family that had him living and learning music and performing in his native Australia, England and Vietnam. Springfield moved to America where in 1981 simultaneously became a music and television star with his hit album "Working Class Dog" that featured the number one hit "Jessie's Girl." While his music was climbing the charts, Springfield had a successful run on the soap opera "General Hospital" as Dr. Noah Drake. The singer is now synonymous with his most popular song, which would go on to win a Grammy Award for best rock male vocal performance. 

Springfield will be joined by another 1980s hit band The Romantics. The Detroit band rose to national attention during the early 1980s alongside the rise of MTV with hit songs and videos for "What I Like About You" and "Talking in Your Sleep."
