MONDAY, JUNE 8

+ European Challenge: Spanish Wine vs. Italian Food — takes place at 7:30 p.m. at Social on First, 1219 First St. $95.

Enjoy a pairing of seven Spanish wines and six Italian courses from Social's head chef.

Relax in Social's ambient setting and dine on courses including cured meats, cheeses and olives, salmon, tuna and shrimp, veal Milanese, a special chef's creation dessert and more.

TUESDAY, JUNE 9

+ McCurdy's Comedy Theatre Downtown Anniversary Party — takes place from 6 to 11 p.m. at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre, 1923 Ringling Blvd. $35.

Celebrate McCurdy's one-year anniversary in its new downtown location with this party, which will benefit the Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation.

Festivities will include food and drink, live music, a dance party and, of course, comedy. Les McCurdy will keep audiences in stitches as the event's host, and several headliners will perform.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10

+ Hump Day 5k — takes place at 6 p.m. at Mr. Beery's, 2645 Mall Drive. Free.

Join fellow runners and beer aficionados every Wednesday at this free fun run. All skill levels are welcome; the emphasis is on fun.

Earn 10 attendance credits to get a free Mr. Beery's water bottle, 25 for a free Dri-Fit running shirt and 50 for a $50 gift certificate. So come blow off some steam, enjoy a beer and beat those hump-day blues.

THURSDAY, JUNE 11

+ Ghost Eagle and John Denver's Ghost — takes place at 9 p.m. at Growler's Pub. Free.

Gritty Appalachia rockers, Ghost Eagle, bring their brand of high-energy rock from Roanoke, Va. to Sarasota this week.

Joining them on the bill are Sarasota-based acoustic Southern rockers, John Denver's Ghost.

FRIDAY, JUNE 12

+ 'Reborning' — takes place at 8 p.m. at Urbanite Theatre, 1487 Second St. $20, or $5 for students.

If you haven't had a chance to check out Sarasota's newest black-box theater, Urbanite Theatre, don't miss the opening of this production of "Reborning" by Zayd Dohrn, starring Megan Therese Rippey, Brendan Ragan and Natalie Symons.

The story follows Kelly, a young sculptor of hyper-realistic baby dolls, who meets Emily, a woman desperate to recreate her past. The dark comedy takes an unsettling look at motherhood, latex and the power of creation.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13

+ Cigar City Tap Invasion— takes place at noon at 210 Tavern, 5045 Fruitville Road. Free.

210 Tavern is surrendering its taps to Cigar City Brewing this Saturday. Stop in to try some of the brewery's best beers and stick around for live music and food.

Hail Dale and Nothing But Trouble will provide live music, and Southern Smoke BBQ and Catering will be serving up eats.

SUNDAY, JUNE 14

+ The Great Father’s Day Race — takes place at 7 a.m. Sunday, June 14, at Siesta Key Beach. $35 in advance, or $40 for same-day registration.

Lace up, break a sweat and join your dad for an early Father's Day celebration.

The run takes place on the beach and features official chip timing, awards for first-place finishers in age categories, medals, snacks and drinks and a free T-shirt for all participants.
