Frank Gilfeather, 79, of Sarasota died May 24.
Born Dec. 7, 1935, Mr. Gilfeather graduated from Purdue University and held a master’s degree from Northeastern University in mechanical engineering. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Gilfeather worked for 30 years in the electronics and computer industry. In 1964, he joined Computer Control, a minicomputer startup, which was acquired by Honeywell, where he became director of custom and special products. Projects included the Mariner 3 Mars fly-by data acquisition system, a fleetwide Navy and Marine Corps logistic control system and an early adapter Internet protocol point-of-sale system for Australia.
Mr. Gilfeather was an avid golfer at Wellesley Country Club and served a term as president of the men’s golf association at the Longboat Key Club.
Mr. Gilfeather is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Amy Lynch, Maryellyn Larcom, Michael Gilfeather and Luke Gilfeather; eight grandchildren; and brother, Paul Gilfeather.
